The world is a fascinating place and no two people see it exactly the same way. We all have our own perspective. In this blog, I will write about my perspective on...whatever. Since I usually view the world through humor, I hope that you will find some of it funny (and let me know). You may find some thought provoking (and let me know). You may find some objectionable (and keep it to yourself). Either way, remember...they are just My Kaneclusions!
Rachel has always driven behind the driver's seat in my MPV minivan. Recently, I've been dropping her off at school and the side she needs to get out on is the passenger side. I asked her to start sitting on that side for convenience sake so she didn't have to step over everything in the back seat to get out. This morning, I got in my car and she was sitting in her passenger side seat again. When asked about it, she said, "I can't get used to sitting on that side. I've grown accustomed to this side." 4-25-2012
During her Student Led Conference, Rachel was showing me a map that she had made a mistake on by misreading the key to the map. The dots in two of the keys were very similar. "It was just a slip of the eye." 3-24-2011
Me: Rachel, you're being evil to the cats.
Rachel: I'm hurt that you would call me such an untasteful adjective. 1-25-2011
After discussing the menstrual cycle with Rachel for the first time, I ended by asking her if she had ever heard of a period before. Her reply: "The only time I heard of a period is in puncuation." - 12-30-10
Rachel was leaving the house and I said to her, “Bye Mini me.” Her response back: “Bye, Bigger, Older version of me.” 11-21-10
Rachel says, "Mom, you crack me up...It's like I'm the egg and you're the bowl." I asked her where she read or heard that and she said she made it up. 10-31-10
In discussing the holidays and playing 'what if' when Rachel gets older, I asked her what would happen if she got married, where did she think she would go on Christmas day. She said she would let the kids open their presents in the morning and then bring them to my house for food. I asked, what happens if your signficant other's family lives in California or somewhere far away, how would you handle it? Her response, without hesitation: "I'd say, 'Tell your parents I said hello.'" 10-17-10
I stated some time ago that on my 50th birthday, I want to take a cruise. On my birthday this year, Rachel said, "The good news is, only one more year until you can take that cruise." 08-05-10
In telling Rachel she had to make her own lunch for camp, she said, "Mom, you're growing me up too fast." 07-24-10
When getting ready for her dance recital, Rachel said, "I love getting ready for my recital...except for the face embellishments". (make-up) 6-26-10
Rachel was reading a book and it came to a description of what a character was wearing. She didn't know what it was so she asked, "Mom, is a windbreaker someone's butt?" 5-2-10
When asking Rachel for a smidgeon of ice cream, I asked her if she knew how much a smidgeon is. Her reply: "A little less than a smidge." 4-25-10
When asking Rachel if she wanted leftover ham with eggs for breakfast, she replied no thanks. I asked why not. Her response: "Ham is just so last night." 2-14-10
After cleaning my wine equipment with Clorox to sterilize it all, Rachel asked me, "Mom, why do you smell like a water park?" 1-22-10
In reference to whether one believes in Santa or not, Rachel says, "I think my friend that doesn't believe is too young to think so logically." 12-15-09
In an effort to get Rachel to take a nap with me, she says, "Mom, you know the drill. You want to sleep. I protest and I win. So can I just get up now?"
"Home is my favorite place because it's comfortable and I know almost every corner of it."
Regarding punishment, my 8 year old said when taking away a new book she got, "I think that's fair. As like any other kid, I don't like it. But I think it's fair."
